Why Baelo Claudia is special
Baelo Claudia is a rare combination: a genuinely complete Roman town — forum, theatre, temples, walls — set on an open Atlantic beach with views across the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa. Its wealth came from tuna and garum, the fermented fish sauce that made this stretch of coast a Roman trading power.
The practicalities of the day
Bolonia Beach sits about 20–25 minutes from Tarifa. Entry to the ruins is free, so a three-hour guided tour with a Roman-inspired tasting beside the site is often all you need — though longer excursions from Cádiz or Seville bundle it with Tarifa and other Costa de la Luz stops.
